Babs and Felix

Home of lots of tourist attractions now trying to take up the slack of a former “smokestack” city. Several years ago I descended from the crumbling slopes of Lookout Mountain, a feature both geological and sociological of the Chattanooga area, and took up living quarters on the North bank of the Tennessee River, within a short drive or longish walk of downtown Chattanooga.

I am the Sole Proprietor, Owner, originator, editor and culpable party for Incorporeal Works, a series of pages linked together offering all my wit and wisdom. What can I say, it’s the best I can do.

I am a grandfather, reading when I can tear myself away from the computer, writing when I can’t do otherwise. I also read, more in the past month than in a year. Reading the printed, rather than pixelated, word on paper is a great, and by me too long neglected pleasure. I will do more of the same. Reacquainting myself with Andrew Marvell, W. Shakespeare, Wm. Faulkner, Emily Dickinson, W. H. Auden, Thomas Harris, Sylvia Plath, Ernest Hemingway, Homer, Anne Sexton, Thomas Wolfe, Tom Wolfe, Thomas Friedman, James Joyce (the shorter stuff, I have finally given up on Ulysses) and a variegated assortment of others.

Reading history as well. Yes to any story of folk and their doings, on a personal, private or public level, I sometimes confuse fact and fiction but try to always recognize truth.

I have also been known to sample beers in variety and depth. Wine with or without food. Stronger waters to cut the chill of winter (Bushmills!) or cool the sweaty, thundery summer evenings as the cicadas scream in the kudzu.

I am lumbering through the early years of my seventh decade, grateful for my grandchildren and my beloved wife Barbara, still finding things interesting. Curious about what happens next, a necessary condition for me. I want to see my grandchildren grow up. They have made a good start.
